My husband has said that he would like to get me a new band for our 10 year anniversary, but I really like the band that I have. My original wedding ring is 14kt gold….is it possible to have this ring dipped in white gold or plat? That way, it is something "new" and it does mark a "10 year" but it is also the ring that I adore…. I think I would just like to keep this wedding ring and have it in white gold or plat??? Thanks in advance for your answers!!
Yes you can have your yellow gold ring rhodium plated white gold. It will wear a lot faster than if it was a white gold ring (they still yellow w/the acidity of your skin) but it’s possible. I had it done once and the white gold rubbed off pretty fast. I wouldn’t really suggest it , it’s a waste of money but it’s up to you. Any jeweler will do it, but they’ll warn you it rubs off quite fast.
Most people get their ring Rhodium dipped, Silver looking but much more shiny then silver or white gold. I wouldnt recommend platinum dipping. If its yellow and you want it white you can either dip in white gold which is a soft metal and is prone to scratches. Or do rhodium which is a harder metal and will give maximum shine.
I guess you could – you hear about rings being dipped all the time
congrats on 10 years! Great job hope you guys have many more.
i asked my jeweler this because i was thinking about having it done and she said although it is possible, it is not reccommended because it won’t take long for the white gold to wear off and then the yellow gold will start showing through again.
